The role of religious education and the teaching remain crucial issues in a future South Africa, especially now that a new dispensation seems imminent. Countries to the north and further afield in Africa have, for different reasons, also gone through a process of restructuring the teaching of theology and religious studies, and much can be learnt from these experiences.
