LUKE'S JOURNEY NARRATIVE: A LITERARY GATEWAY OF THE MISSIONARY CHURCH IN ACTS
Abstract
The article is written in the form of a broad overview of Luke's two-volume work and focuses on the 'Journey Narrative' with the portrayal of Christians as 'Followers of the Way' as its dominant theme. Key markers which stand out as dominant characteristics in Luke's literary structure, are identified and their contribution to the Missionary Church in Acts briefly discussed. These key markers are: the centrality of the resurrection and its associated characteristic of justice; the importance of faithfulness to the scriptures in the light of the resurrection; the setting of people free from that which binds them; their reintegration as whole people into the society and the commission to being witnesses of Jesus' ministry.Authors retain copyright and grant the Journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this Journal.
