Abstract

The article examines the facilitating role of imagination in the process of transformation.  Firstly, the suspicion that imagination is merely a license for subjectivity is addressed, before the phenomenological roots of imagination and its radical redefinition by Husserl are retraced.  This serves as background for the main part of the article, which consists of a discussion of the substantial contribution of Ricoeur.  In a final section, the role of the imagination is illustrated by a brief analysis of the figure of Abraham in Galatians and the parable of the labourers in the vineyard.
