Abstract

The questions raised in this article are related to theories of science in practical theology and diaconiology. These two approaches to practical theology are compared by way of questions concerning their view of reality and truth, the subject matter of these disciplines, collaboration with other sciences, and methodological problems. The conclusion is reached that diaconiology – with, inter alia, its normative-deductive scriptural based procedure and its related exegetical method and confessional restrictions- does not progress beyond a one-sided dogmatic approach. The question therefore arises: does diaconiology represent any epistemological contribution to practical theology?
