Abstract

Chapter 5 of the Gospel of John states: “You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me!”  The one who says this is Jesus himself and the scripture which he refers to is the Old Testament.  From the beginning on, Christianity has zealously followed the appeal of its Lord: it concerned itself with the Old Testament, studied it, interpreted it, and read it aloud in church services.  This has been so up to our days.  When one reads the Bible one will notice that the Old Testament comprises approximately two-thirds of its volume, the New Testament, on the other hand, only one-third.  The Old Testament is part of the Holy Scriptura of Christianity.
