EXTRAPOLATING THE BIBLICAL TRAJECTORIES ON 'HOPE FOR THE EARTH'

Abstract

For the purposes of Christian theology, the historical reconstruction of Biblical perspectives on the theme of 'hope for the earth' cannot be an aim in itself. In the introduction to these essays it was suggested that such a reconstruction could form part of an investigation into the viability of an escatological approach to an ecological theology, spirituality and praxis within the South African context. This call for clarity on the complex hermeneutical question as to how Biblical material could or should be used for systematic theology, ethics and practical theology.
