BONHOEFFER’S ENGLISH BIBLE
Abstract
Dietrich Bonhoeffer dated his becoming a Christian to a period during 1932 when he truly discovered the Bible, a discovery which liberated him from personal ambition for the service of Jesus Christ and his church. In August that year he declared in a lecture at an ecumenical conference in Gland:“Has it not become terrifyingly clear again and again, in everything that we have said here to one another, that we are no longer obedient to the Bible? We are more fond of our own thoughts than of the thoughts of the Bible. We no longer read the Bible seriously, we no longer read it against ourselves, but for ourselves.”Authors retain copyright and grant the Journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this Journal.
This is an open access journal, and the authors and journal should be properly acknowledged, when works are cited.
Authors may use the publishers version for teaching purposes, in books, theses, dissertations, conferences and conference papers.
