CHRISTOLOGY TODAY

Abstract

Christology today should explain the universal relevance of the particular man Jesus, not by reducing his particularity, but my means of the notion of Jesus’ loving identification with others. In incarnational terms, God is the particular story of Jesus enacted his loving solidarity with all humanity. This can be understood, not only as an identification with the common human condition of universal sinfulness, but also as a differentiated identification with people in all the varieties of the human condition. In this way an understanding of the incarnation as God’s solidarity, especially with the poor and oppressed, can be relatively justified.
