THE CHRISTIAN FAITH AS PREDICTOR OF LONELINESS
Abstract
The chief aim of the research was to investigate the importance of Christian faith in the prediction of loneliness. Questionnaires were completed by more than 3000 church members of the reformed churches in Bloemfontein, from which a sample of 1000 questionnaires was randomly drawn in order to form the research sample. The results, generated by means of a stepwise multiple regression analysis, showed that faith in Jesus Christ is an important predictor in loneliness. It was also found that certain biographical variables correlate very highly with loneliness and can be used effectively to predict loneliness amongst individuals. This combination of variables, viz. Christian faith and biographical variables, managed to account for about 19% of the variance of loneliness.Downloads
