Abstract

The relationship between ideology and spirituality does not only offer a critical view of the project of reconstruction from a Black Theological perspective, but it is also a significant question for the agenda of Black Theology of liberation in the 21st century. This paper searches for the ideological assumptions that deeply underlie the proposal for reconstruction by reformulating it as a masqueraded proposal for a political theology. By further taking a critical view of the new order that instantiates the proposal for a reconstruction theology, caution in the journey between domination and hegemony resulting from a malignant convergence of public life by unredeemed spheres of politics and economics is made to underscore the dangers of convergence between ideology and spirituality.
