Abstract

How should the unique claims of Christianity co -exist with other faiths in an ‘open’, pluralistic society? The ‘new South Africa’ is expected to be more ‘secular’ state than previously acknowledged, in spite of the fact that approximately 77% of the population claim some degree of Christian allegiance. How have other societies in transition adapted to these changes? A proper biblical understanding of the separation of church and state and religious liberty on the one hand can co-exist happily and peacefully with specifically Christian convictions on the other.
