CHILIASM: AN ESCAPE FROM THE PRESENT INTO AN EXTRA–BIBLICAL APOCALYPTIC IMAGINATION
Résumé
The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of the origin, history and philosophy of chiliasm/millennialism. The origin of this concept is ascribed to an erroneous interpretation of Jewish apocalyptic imaginary.Christianity is shown to have been influenced via Judaism. Currently three versions of the concept are observed, namely premillennialism, amillennialism and postmillennialism. The conclusion arrived at is that chiliasm/millennialism is an escape from the present into extra-biblical apocalyptic imagination. Chiliasm does not fully appreciate the historical character of the Bible.Téléchargements
