BIBLICAL THEOLOGY: A CHALLENGE TO BIBLICAL SCHOLARS

  • W J Wessels University of South Africa

Résumé

The term ‘biblical theology’ is used differently in different contexts. In this paper it is applied to the field of Old and New Testament studies. The view presented is to move away from the idea of a centre for writing Old and New Testament theology and rather to work with themes or topics within different contexts without the pretension of presenting the centre. It is suggested that such themes or topics should be investigated in both testaments leaving room for a variety of perspectives on the subject under discussion. Matters such as the canon and the relationship between the two testaments obvious come into play. One of the main benefits of such an approach, is interdisciplinary co-operation. A few suggestions are made for future endeavours in practising biblical theology.
