Abstract

The present changes affecting the whole of South African society, of necessity also have consequences for the role of religion and of religious movements. A reassessment of the relevance of the Christian faith and the mission of the church is under way in many quarters. The contributions in this edition all have to do with aspects of this process of re-evaluation. Christianity and culture, the credibility of the credibility and church, theology and culture, and a dialogical approach to biblical/religious instruction are some of the themes discussed. New insights are offered, but at the same time it is clear that the debate is still unfolding and needs to be expanded in many directions.
