Abstract
BIBLICAL STUDIES AS A FORMATIVE HUMANORUM AT UNIVERSITYThe position of Biblical Studies as a university subject is often questioned because of a basic misunderstanding of its academic status. Although it is a “dependent” discipline, as “applied theology” it has a functional identity of its own. It can take its rightful place in the university once it is accepted that working form a specific basic commitment need not impair the scientific credibility of the biblical scholar’s word. At the same time there should be a critical awareness of the methodological presuppositions and paradigms being employed. The article discusses at length the various conditions to be met by Biblical Studies in order to function as a formative science at university level.Authors retain copyright and grant the Journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this Journal.
This is an open access journal, and the authors and journal should be properly acknowledged, when works are cited.
