Abstract

The focus of this issue is on matters of interception. Eugene Botha shows how insights from speech act theory can be used in an attempt to explain a difficult verse like John 4:16. Gerald West contracts the hermeneutical approach of Mosala and Boesak to the story of Cain and Abel to illustrate the differences between reading as a critic and as an; ordinary reader’ in a context of crisis. Johan Engelbrecht attempts to clarify the expression ‘the style of Matthew, and to show what can be learned from the field of general stylistics. Jasper Burden sketches a profile of first year Biblical Studies at Unisa, showing the multi-dimensional composition of the student body and the demands it places on teaching and learning. Theo Badenhorst concludes with a discussion of some key aspects in Gollwitzer’s theology.
